BSc, has over 30 years experience in industry and academia as a software engineer and entrepreneur. He was an early advocate of the web as an application platform from its inception in the early 90s having founded a company in 1994 to commercialise some of the first web applications in the area of web content management, accounting software, document management and interactive maps. Joe has also worked in the field of IoT (internet of things) and network security with publications going back as far as the 1990s in this area. Joe joined the FARMEYE project in 2015 in its pre-commercial phase at NUIG as the lead software engineer and is now FARMEYE CTO.

Her research focuses on soil carbon and its importance in agronomy and climate change mitigation. Following a degree in Agricultural Science (2004) at UCD, she went on to study soil-manure-water interactions and devised strategies for reducing nutrient loss from dairy farms for her PhD (2009) at the Agri-Food & Biosciences Institute, Northern Ireland and Queen’s University Belfast. As a postdoctoral researcher at UCD (2009-2011) she focused on optical sensing of soils. She lectured in Abiotic Resources (Air, Soil, Water) at UCD (2012) before pursuing her work on the application of digital technologies to soils for physical, chemical and geochemical characterisation with a Marie Curie International Outgoing Fellowship at The University of Sydney (2013-2015). Her current work on soil carbon is funded by an Irish Research Council Starting Laureate Award.

She has 24 years of experience in both execution and management of sustainable land use research. Saskia works on multidisciplinary research topics like Circular agriculture, Sustainable Food Production, Climate Smart Land Management and Land Use optimization. Saskia is responsible for actively orchestrating the application of the Deep Demonstrations methodology in national regional contexts to achieve decarbonisation, climate adaptation and regeneration of (agri)biodiversity. In her work Saskia builds partnerships that jointly seek for circular and climate neutral solutions that contribute to the realization of the SGDs. She builds and holds senior stakeholder relationships over time while convening, connecting, and facilitating actions on the ground, working with and through innovation partners, local teams, community members and key stakeholders.
In her part-time position at Wageningen Research, Saskia is the co-coordinator of the European Joint Program on Agricultural Soils under Climate Change. In that role Saskia facilitates the development of a Europe wide network of Soil researchers, supports strategic partnerships of EJP SOIL with both European and worldwide initiatives.
